How Can I Write A Letter Asking That I Be Granted Leave?

Answer Question

Your letter should be addressed in the first instance to your line manager. In the letter spell out why you need leave to be granted and how much leave you would like to take.

Most larger organisations and companies have policies in place regarding leave, the circumstances under which it is granted, how much leave you are entitled to take and whether it is paid, pro rata or at your own expense.

Generally, leave is granted on the following grounds, though it can vary from company to company, or public and private sector.

Compassionate leave - this is a set period of leave, usually around two weeks, for  the bereavement of a close family relative.

Carer's leave -  Normally, there are at least two types of carer's leave. One for single days and shorter one-off occasions to enable parents to look after sick children or take them to hospital appointments etc.
The second type of leave is for longer periods and can be for such things as a serious or prolonged illness or to accompany a child for a hospital admission etc.
