No, John the Baptist and John the Apostle are not the same person.

John the Baptist was the forerunner (announced to the people that the messiah was come) and baptizer of Jesus Christ. Luke records that his father, Zacharias, was a priest and his mother, Elisabeth, was of the daughters of Aaron. John the Baptist was beheaded by Herod at the request of his stepdaughter Salome.

John the Apostle was a disciple of Jesus and the author of the Gospel of John and the Book of Revelation (disputed). He was the son of Zebedee and the brother of James. He is referred to as the "disciple whom Jesus loved." John was present at the crucifixion and the first to believe the news that Jesus had risen from the grave.
