How Old Do You Have To Be Before You Can Get Plastic Surgery?

In order to have plastic surgery there is no specific age when you can have it done. Some girls aged as young as 14 have sometimes had it done, although some surgeons do not operate on young people.

It all depends on which kind of surgery you are having. There are two main types of procedures, either cosmetic or reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery generally consists of procedures such as breast enlargements or reductions, a face lift or botox. Reconstructive surgery on the other hand focuses more on pinning ears back or rebuilding facial features. So if you are having reconstructive surgery you can have it from the age of around 4 years old.

Cosmetic surgery is generally never really needed. It can boost persons self esteem but it is not needed for medical reasons. Reconstructive surgery however is needed and is understood a lot more than cosmetic surgery.

It is always recommended to wait to have plastic surgery until you are at least 18 years of age. At this time you know your own mind and your body may have stopped changing. However, sometimes it is best to wait until you are in your early twenties so that you can be 100% certain that cosmetic surgery is for you.
