In an ecosystem food relationship between living beings is defined by a food chain. In food chain energy is produced by producers and then this energy is consumed by consumers. The producers of the food chain are plants. They make complex organic compounds by the process of photosynthesis. Producers are autotrophs and get their energy from sunlight. In the presence of sunlight they use carbon dioxide and water to form their food which is consumed by consumers.
