How Do You Work Out What To Plant Where In A Garden?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Your garden design will be constrained by several factors. These include soil type, the dryness of wetness of the soil in different parts of the garden and the extent to which wind, sun and frost impact on your garden. Light and shade dictate which varieties will grow best in which spot. Tender plants will not thrive in exposed sites. Plants with beautiful delicate leaves may look ugly and ragged if grown in a windy spot. Rich soil will favour some plants, poor soil another type. This is why gardening is all about trial, error and getting to know plants and your plot. One key factor is how much gardening you want to do. Low maintenance plants save time spent working in the garden. Do you need shelter for privacy or to reduce wind? Some shrubs grow quickly and will provide both. Do you want to grow food? A vegetable plot needs lots of sun. Decide what you want and know what your garden offers in terms of conditions. The best gardens match these two factors.
