What is lean manufacturing strategy.what are the threat of this strategy?

I work for a major auto manufacturer. The lean concept combines jobs, and the product is made on a 'just in time' basis. Eliminates the need for warehousing. This in turn, eliminates jobs. The only advantage (my opinion) is that employers get the same product with less employees and less overhead,i.e. Benefit packages.
