As a region, Kentucky has got its name from the river Kentucky. But there is no one explanation that can say for sure how Kentucky got its name. A name of native American origin, there are various meanings of the name, one being 'land of tomorrow', the other two meanings are 'cane and turkey lands' and another call it 'meadow land'.

Initially, it was a part of Virginia and it became the 15th state of the United States of America in the year 1792. It has Mississippi and the Ohio rivers on the western side and the big sandy river and pine mountain on the eastern side. Cumberland Mountain is also on the eastern side of it. In the south Kentucky is bordered by the state of Tennesse.
