    It is believed that GSM standard is used by more than 2 billion people across more than 212 nations and provinces. The uniqueness of the GSM standards makes global roaming very easy among cell phone operators, allowing customers to use their phone in various different sections of the globe. GSM varies to a large extent form its antecedents in which both the signalling as well as speech channels are Digital call quality, and is thought to be second generation cell phone system.

    With regards to customer service the main advantage of GSM system was superior digital voice quality along with low cost alternatives to making calls such as text messaging.
