When Was 'Rock Lobster' Released, And How Well Did It Do In The UK?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Rock lobster was the first single by the band B-52s; it was released in the year 1978. The song was mainly instrumental; it included a twangy surf style electric guitar, a Vox organ or a Farsifa along with drums. The only thing unique about this song was that unlike other pop songs, the bass guitar instrument was not at all present in this song. Instead fo a bass guitar a key board was used to play the bass lines. In the United Kingdom when the song was first released in the year 1979 it debut at # 37 on the charts, and later when it was re issued in the year 1986 it reached at # 12 in the UK Charts. However in the United States of America the song just managed to reach at #56.

Good item -- but of course most of the hits, and most recordings in general by THE DOORS had no bass guitar either!! Ray Manzaraek played the bass parts, if any-- on his keyboards. Later albums like "American prayer" had legendary ex-Zappa bassist Arthur Barrow on bass. Arthur also toured and recorded in the 80s with Doors ' guitarist Robbie Krieger.
