India got its Independence from the British Empire on 15 August 1947. This independence was a result of efforts of millions of Indians for decades. Actually the british rule was on the sub-continent that included India and Pakistan. Muslims and Hindus were the main populations of this area. Both wanted their separate homelands because of religious issues. That is why after their tireless movement, Britishers had to leave and declare independence on both these countries.
