What Were President Clinton's Efforts To Resolve The Middle East Conflict?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Most Presidents of the United States try to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, if they do, only during their second term in office. They then know there 'ain't gonna be no third term in office.'

The progress made during the 1990s with the Oslo accord had all but vanished and the Palestinian "Intefada", believed to be as impotent, ineffective and incompetent as any other effort ever made by the Palestinians, had broken out. So the President decides to try where everyone else has failed and calls for a meeting between Yasser Arafat and Ehud Barak to resolve the conflict. The meeting between the two sides that is known as the Camp- David Summit results in failure.  Both sides fail to reach a settlement.

The summit had been called for by Clinton on the 5th of July 2000 and the talks went on from the 11th to the 25th of July.
