How Did Humanism Affect Religion?

Answer Question

Religion has not exactly been affected by modern notions of humanism because technically religion is supposed to promote humanism. However, it's just human greed that corrupts religion and people end up using it to meet their own selfish objectives. In fact, if we go far back in time there have been certain Eastern religions in the past like Jainism and Hinduism that went so far as to extend their kindness to not just fellow humans but animals and plants too. This would be a very flawed assumption that the values presented in the humanistic model are unique in human history. The deviation in humanism was not because of an inherent flaw in religions but since the modern nuances of atheism and a digression from faith based religions occurred, philosophers have tended to adopt humanistic value systems that form the basis of social behavior and establish new set of goals and roles for other humans based on informed decisions and a strict adherence to reasoning and pragmatism.
