No. Algae cannot bloom. After all they increase by division, not by fertilization. Algal blooms are actually vast increases in the numbers of algae. Whereas in pools and streams the color of algae is a marshy green, many marine algae create a striking color in the water. You can find algae in the oceans, the lakes, and even in your aquariums and fishbowls. As some algae grows and spreads, then the color can change and make it appear as if it is actually blooming. For the most part, algae is green, but Euglena sanguinea, for example, or Oscillatoria rebescens, cause a deep red "bloom" color.
In general, algae do not bloom. As it increases and grows, it can give off the tint of various colors. The algae in the ocean may also have a different color than the algae in the streams, rivers, lakes, and fish tanks. Different types of algae can be different colors.
