Who Was Michelangelo And What Was Wrong With His Nose?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Michelangelo was an Italian artist who was born on March 6, 1475 and passed away on February 18, 1564.  He was an artist, a sculptor, a poet and an engineer.

Michelangelo's nose was so squashed against his face that, in the words of one historian, "his forehead almost hangs over his nose." As a boy, Michelangelo had mercilessly teased the painter Pietro Torrigiano while Torrigiano was trying to study some art works inside a church.  Angered, Torrigiano turned to Michelangelo and, in his own words, "dealt him such a blow on the nose that I felt the bone and the cartilage yield under my fist as if they had been made of crisp wafers. And he'll go with my mark on him to his dying day." So, basically Michelangelo was not born with a deformed nose. His nose was literally bashed in by another artist because Michelangelo was making fun of him.
