There is quite a lot you can do to boost your score for an IQ test. The first thing is to know what sort of questions are used to measure IQ, so if you aren't familiar with the test, it's advisable to get an "IQ Puzzle Book" or "IQ Booster Book" (there are lots of these, mostly based on puzzles and trick questions to sharpen up your problem-solving skills. You could also use some of the information on the internet such as this free downloadable test to practise and get a feel for the format. (Beware of believing the scores on free tests, though; these are fine for practice, but the real test needs to be adminstered and marked by a reputable body such as MENSA.)

You can also gain general practice by reading more, making a conscious effort to broaden your vocabulary by looking up the meanings of new words, and playing knowledge-based games like quizzes.
