Soft adventure tourism is associated with those tourists who prefer adventures which do not involve the element of danger and are perceived to be safe for example hiking and bird watching. For this kind of adventure little or no experience is required by the tourist. These adventurers are highly motivated in terms of making new discoveries and aim to find pleasure by avoiding their routine urban life.

On the other hand, hard adventure tourism includes activities which include risk and challenge. Example of such tourism includes canyoning, bridge jumping and journeying towards some remote, untouched destination.

Summing up soft adventure tourism appeals to a wider range of people as hard adventure tourism requires skill, experience and willpower. Yet the overall preference is linked with the personality of the person choosing the tourism.
