How Do I Keep My Cat From Returning To Pee On My Leather Couch After I Have Cleaned It?

My youngest cat (of 5 total) has been urinating on my leather couch. I am doing everything to clean the spot appropriately but she comes back to it. Am I wasting my time?

Well as a life long owner and observer of cats I can assure you of one thing the cat has a reason, even if we are not important enough to be let in on their secret. That being said... How is she being treated by the older cats? Litter box or indoor/outdoor? Was she originally raised that way by it's mother? Has another cat ever urinated there? And lastly what are you using to clean the leather? Oh and when do you punish her? Answer those simple questions and you might be getting an inkling of where she is at... She may be marking territory, the other cats maybe harassing her for using "their" litter box/ being in their territory, she may think it's a game for all I know, but she has a reason. Oh and no your not wasting your time, all animals of reasonable intelligence have the ability to learn.

The reason your cat returns to the same spot because it is "marked" by the smell of the pee. You can't smell it but the cat can and it is something that cannot be removed by regular soap.

Try the pet store, and look for the spray that is made just for your problem use it and it may help.
