Why Was Louis XIV Termed As The Sun King?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Ruling the state of France for a long period of seventy two years, King Louis XIV had earned the title of the Sun King from his people.  This title was symbolic to the magnificent style of his rule and the splendor of his reign ensuring complete compatibility between the grandeur of the Sun's brilliance and the majesty of King Louis's era.  It was at the tender age of four when Louis XIV was titled the King of France but it was not until he turned eighteen in the year 1661 that he formally assumed the full powers of the position after the death of the renowned Cardinal Mazarin.

King Louis was a brilliant ruler and the prime reason behind his intelligence to handle power was the fact that he eminently reveled in the mightiness of his position as King of France.  Possessing the passionate hankering to coruscate in his role, Louis established a great government whose ultimate aim was to espouse and foster any project that contributed towards increasing the King's glory.
