Greenhithe is in Kent, England. More specifically it is a village situated in the district of Dartford. It is a part of the parish of Greenhithe and Swanscombe. It was situated where it was easy to construct wharves for shipping corn, wood and other products. It biggest cargoes consisted of chalk and lime which were required for agriculture. This eventually led to the development of the cement industry at Swansombe. Greenhithe had a brief stint as a tourist resort during the Victorian era. The pier at Greenhithe was built in 1842.
Greenhithe’s history is influenced greatly by its location. It is in between Watling Street and the River Thames. Its strategic importance is of less importance today than it was in earlier times. St. Mary’s Church is located at Greenhithe. It was just a hamlet until modern times.
