Angola is currently a multi-party government and its status is that of a nominal democracy. The current president of Angola is Jose Eduardo dos Santos. He is the second president of the country. He has been in office since September 10, 1979.

Dos Santos was born in Luanda on August 28, 1942. Apart from being the country's current president, he is also its head of government and the commander-in-chief of Angola's armed forces. He belongs to the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola, the political party with which he has been associated for the last 50 years.

The Prime Minister of Angola is Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos. Affectionately known as Nando, dos Santos was born on March 5, 1952. He has been the prime minister of Angola since December 2002. The post of prime minister was vacant between 1999 and 2002. Dos Santos has formerly served as the interior minister of Angola.
