Since I'm about to take a job in Bangalore, I'll try to answer this. Chronological resumes are only useful for entry-level positions. As you advance in your career, a curriculum vitae (CV) is more useful. You need to focus on the skill-set that makes you the one-and-only-candidate for the job in question. Group your past jobs into types. In my case, i had one set of pedagoical experience and one set of IT experience, targeting a language consultant job in a calling center. This lets the recruiter see how your past meshes with their needs.

In some cases, list your academic qualifications first, including any certifications.
