When you collect unemployment, your former employer is who pays into that unemployment. Being self employed, theres nobody to pay your unemployment, and you will have to show proof of your income. Also if you didn't pay income taxes on that income while you were self employed, then you will be in a whole lot of trouble if you apply for unemployment. You will have to pay all that back income taxes. You might be better off not applying for the unemployment if you have not paid the taxes on that income.
