Contact Social Security, and they will start the ball rolling.  You will have to fill out a very long form, and you'll need info from you doctors to forward to SS.  You may not get it the first time you apply, but don't give up.  There are also attorneys who specialize in getting people benefits.  They tend to take a large portion of the back money you could be awarded, so check with legal services, to see if they can help you.  They charge little to nothing, and you get all of your back pay.  Whether you can use legal services, depends on your income.  It may sound complicated, but it's certainly worth a try, if you're unable to work.  Good Luck.

You might be eligible for disability however the only way to trelly find out is to ask you doctor to wright a report on your medical condition and present it to the social security board. After consulting with a social security advocate to find out if it is even possible that you qualify.

I worked for a law firm that specialized in disability cases and also medical malpractise.  Unless you are severely disabled, such as paralyzed, you will get turned down the first time you apply.  You must first go to a social security office if one is near you and tell them your story.  You can call their 800 number or even go on line but it is helpful to see and explain your story to a real person.  They will give you all the information and forms that you will need.  Then you apply and be prepared to be denied.  Then you look for a law firm that specializes in disability cases.  Most of them will take the case without any upfront money.  They get a percent of  what they get for you.  These lawyers know how to work the system and usually can get more benefits for you than you can imagine.

If you really want to go back to work, try looking for something part-time.  I don't know what type of work you were doing, but maybe even try something different. Perhaps working from home would work.  Good luck.
