If Someone Suffers From Anorexia, Can Aromatherapy Cure It, And If So, How?

Answer Question

A lot depends on what kind of anorexia you're talking about – in general, "anorexia" refers to a decrease in appetite, but it's the cause of that decrease that concerns us here.

Did you know, for example, that some antidepressants can produce anorexia as a common side-effect?

Or is this question about "anorexia nervosa" – a life-threatening eating disorder usually brought on by a poor (and usually inaccurate) self-image?

For the purposes of this question, we'll say no, aromatherapy won't cure anorexia per se – in fact, aromatherapy and essential oils aren't cures in themselves, they just activate your body's own internal healing mechanisms.

But that's not to say they can't help restore a lost appetite and help undo the damage anorexia causes to the rest of the body.

Here's an essential oil recipe to do just that:

19 drops Clary Sage, to uplift the mind and emotions
16 drops Bergamot, to stimulate the appetite
15 drops Geranium, for bringing body functions back into balance

Mix the essential oils with 100ml cold-pressed vegetable, nut or seed oil to make up a massage lotion for use on a regular basis, and store it in the fridge in a small glass bottle.
