Can I Extend My Gas Water Heater Exhaust Pipe Horizontally For 6 Feet To Run Out The Side Of The Building?
Can I extend my gas water heater exhaust pipe horizontally for 6 feet to run out the side of the building? It's a real problem going straight up with the exhaust due to rafters in the ceiling and roof being directly over the center of the exhaust stack. Also does this have to be insulated from the steel/wood ceiling and roof or can the stack touch the building? This is a 75 gallon residential heater with a 4 inch stack.

If you are going to penatrate through the wall and go up, you will need to use b-vent through the wall, tee outside and extennd past the roof ( facia) three feet. Support it every 5' going up. You will need to go from single wall from the water heater to the b-vent. B-vent is 1" to combustibles clearances. 1/4 inch per foot rise comming out of the water heater to the b-vent on the horizontal. Your supports will keep it off the house.
