Sometimes we get so much attached to animals like dog, cat, rat, etc and spend so long time with them, that some of us may even try to communicate with them, expect them to express emotions such as crying or laughing. But in practice, this is not possible. Emotions like laughing, smiling, crying etc are exclusively expressed by humans only, not by any other animals.

But well, some of the animals have the ability to whimper or whine, but this is something different from emotional crying involving the production of tears. Actually, the production of tears is a cognitive process that involves thinking and emotional sensitivity. Unless a human infant does not become able to think and feel, the infant yells to satisfy needs but doesn't cry.

Laughing is also another cognitive phenomenon that may not be produced by any other animals except human. This is true that some of the animals like monkey and chimpanzee give impression of laughing, but this is not at all the cognitive process that actually performed by human. Human laughs at something in particular, whereas they give the impression without any specific reason.
