What City Was The First Shopping Mall In?

Answer Question

Isfahan's Grand Bazaar is a mostly covered mall which dates back to the 10th century.  The 15th Century Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is one of the world's largest indoor markets, with 58 streets and more than 4,000 shops. The Gostiny Dvor in St Petersburg in Russia was a purpose-built covered shopping mall, and opened in 1785, having more than 100 shops. Of the classic shopping malls still in operation today, the earliest was the Burlington Arcade in London, England, in 1819, while its American equivalent was the Arcade in Providence, Rhode Island, opened in 1828, making it the oldest mall in America. Many other malls opened in large cities across Europe in the mid-19th century, perhaps the grandest being the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, Italy, which is very similar to spacious modern malls and opened in 1864. Compared to those, the Cleveland Mall, opened in 1890, is a positive newcomer!
