Why Is Impossible For Absolute Value Of A Number Be Negative?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Absolute value of a number is equal to the numerical value of the number without considering sign of the number. Absolute value is defined as the distance or length between two points. The length of a quantity is always positive. We cannot measure a length in a negative scale. So, the absolute value cannot be negative. The absolute value of a number is always positive for example, absolute value of 1 is 1 and absolute value of -1 is also 1.

    |1| = 1

It can never be negative because the absolute value is the distance from zero on a number line. So if you have -7 the absolute value would be 7, because it is seven points away from the orgin (0). Hope this helps! :)
