Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

In 1973 the match between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King was nicknamed "Battle of the Sexes." Billie Jean King, then the number 2 women player, thrashed Bobby Riggs to win 6-4, 6-3, and 6-3 on 30th September at the Astrodome. Bobby Riggs had earlier defeated number 1 Margaret Smith Court 6-2, 6-1. There is even a film "When Billie Beat Bobby" staring Holly Hunter and Ron Silver based on this event with a tag line "It's not just the size of your racquet. It's the way you swing it."

Billie Jean King was from a Conservative Methodist background and has to her carrier 12 grand slam singles titles, 14 grand slam women's doubles titles and 11 grand slam mixed doubles titles, and is considered one of the greatest tennis players but is best remembered for her "Battle of the Sexes" against Bobby Riggs.
