Oral enzyme therapy does promote better digestion and absorption of essential nutrients required in our body to function and maintain required balance. Indeed there is likehood that better digestion and absorption may be additional ways in which oral enzymes induce some of the clinically observed effects. Better absorption of essential vitamins, minerals, trace elements, fatty acids and nutrients translates into the better supply, and thus into a more efficient and healthier body. These nutrients are essential for all our functions, including metabolism, circulation of the immune and vascular systems, the repair system and even catabolism.

However, it is our feeling that this does not fully explain all of the enzyme effects since experimental intravenous, intralesional or intratumoral enzymes have also demonstrate significant and beneficial clinical effects.

We do think that the result of quercetin (rutin) use in the enzyme mixtures explain their action since rutin present in only some of the preparation and the other mixtures lacking rutin have been reported to have an effect as good or better then those within rutin. However, more studies quercetin alone would be justified to better elucidate the isolated effect of this one component.
