How Did Indira Gandhi Come To Power?

    Indira Gandhi formed Wanara Sena movement for girls and boys which had certain effective role in India's National Movement. Indira Gandhi came in extreme limelight in after 1971. The reason she joined politics was the sense of duty, pride in her father and also the family legacy. It was Congress President Kumarswami Kamraj who wanted to overcome Morarji Desai's wing.
    On behalf of Congress parliamentary party, Indira Gandhi outvoted Desai by 186 votes and thus won her first election and became the third prime minister of India and the first woman to occupy that portfolio. Desai wanted to capture home ministry but she triumphed in her endeavor to deter him from challenging. It was 1967 general election that brought Indira Gandhi to power with a little majority.
