RSS is short for Real Simple Syndication. RSS is a syndication format used to publish frequently updated material like site updates, news feeds and blog posts. RSS formats are specified in XML.

RSS feeds are useful because multiple feeds can be loaded onto a single page. That means instead of having to visit all your favorite news sites to find a good story to read, you can just check out their site feed and pick a header that interests you. You also don't have to visit sites you want regular updates on. Many new web browsers and email clients come equipped with a feed reader so that users can easily check site feeds while browsing the net or reading their email.

    It's all about convenience.
