The Arco de los Gigantes is one of the most emblematic architectural works in the city of Antequera which is situated in Malaga province in southern Spain. The arch is built into a two metre thick wall which is seven metres in height, and situated in the Plaza Alta between Calle Rastro and Calle Colegio in the upper part of the city.

The name translates as Giant's Arch and was built to replace a Moorish gate in the late 16th century. The purpose of the gate was to create a kind of open air museum which would celebrate the Roman history of the city and its surrounding countryside. The Arco de los Gigantes was originally adorned with plaques, sculptures and other artefacts found amongst Roman remains in the region. The Arch only bears the emblems of the city today; a tower, a lion and a jar of lilies.

Looking into the plaza the Arco de los Gigantes frames the Church of Santa Maria. From the other angle it frames views of the town and countryside spectacularly. The arch is a beautiful and tranquil place to visit during your stay.
