Is Curling A Modern Sport?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Curling is a winter sport which originated in the 16th century in Scotland. Thus, curling as a winter sport is centuries old and not a modern sport. It consists of two teams with each team consisting of four players each. The objective of each team is to hurl a squat, a circular stone weighing about 17 kilograms, through a crampit and a broom towards one tee, a fixed goal or even called a house. At the end of play, the circular stones lying near the tee count towards the score and the team with the highest score wins the game.

The Royal Caledonia Curling Club, which was founded in the year 1838, is the governing body of the popular winter sport and organizes curling tournaments which are often known as "bonspiel". Curling is a part of the Olympic Winter sports. The sport of curling is played mainly in the North American continent as well as other countries. It is a major sport in Canada.
