Performance appraisal is a tool to judge your worker's performance against the rules and standards set by your organization. That how much that worker was up to the level of satisfaction, how much he/she has deviated from being perfect in the organization.
Performance appraisal is considered to be the hard part for HR managers because they have to judge the number of factors before giving a verdict of excellent, good or below average. The aim of the performance appraisal is employee development and organizational improvement, There are number of tools used to judge performance of employees.
In the Linear rating scale type of method appraisers are supplied with printed forms for each employee. Employee ranking is another effective tool. In this method the employees are ranked from best to worst on some characteristics. The rater selects the highest and lowest level of the employees on the basis of their job category, responsibility and duties associated with that particular job and he rates all the employees in that group one by one.
