The process of malting grain makes malt develop enzymes that are needed to modify it's starches and turn it into sugars.

This can be pretty harsh on the system, these enzymes, it makes the body react in funny ways. Malt is used for beer and whiskey, and even vinegar, but the use of malt in vinegar has a different way of using the starches, so it doesn't mess with the body in quite the same way.

Some people (more commonly than you think) are mildly to severely allergic to malt, barley, or hops, hence, an even worse reaction to the alcohol, i.e. vomiting, and diarrhoea, queasy stomachs are all related to these ingredients that go into the alcohol.

I am mildly allergic, even after two beers, I develop the upset tummy and the other. My son is more so, he has to go to the doctor if he drinks beer, and so he avoids it all the time.

Pretty silly thing to happen to you just for a beer or a shot of alcohol. Another thing that this stuff does to you is dehydration. If you drink enough, you become dehydrated enough that you need to go to the doctor and have an i.v. put in, and some vitamins to make you feel better. The alcohol in beer and in other alcoholic drinks sometimes gives people hangovers which I think you are refering to. When, you drink on an empty stomach the alcohol flows in your bloodstream and depleates vitamins in your body. To avoid such situation drink after a filling meal.
