"Ayoba" is a slang term used by South Africans to express amazement.
It is derived from other slang terms, like "Ayeye" or "Ayoyoyo." It was originally meant as an approval/appreciation of good dancing, although the exact origins of the phrase are unknown. It is thought to have roots in Johannesburg township culture. It is however, uniquely South African and expresses delight, excitement, agreement and approval. It is also used as a greeting.

I'm not sure who started using these words, but I find it extremely interesting that these two words are spelled EXACTLY like the same words in my language.
If you're Nigerian, from the Yoruba tribe, Ayoba is a contraction of Aya = Wife and Oba= King. So that word means " The King's wife or The Queen". The other word, Ayeye means " Joy, Celebration, Festivity and just sheer happiness". There you have it!

The term ‘Ayoba’ is an exuberant expression of general delight or approval, rather than a word with a specific meaning. It has its origins on the dance-floor, and is an evolution of expressions like ‘ayeye’ / ayoyoyo’ used to express approval or appreciation of good dancing. As with many slang words, no one knows its exact origins but it is believed to have evolved in Joburg township culture.
