A photovoltaic also called "PV" in-short as a technology in which light is used as a source for creating electrical power. In this technology solar power is generated by solar cells. These solar cells are being packaged as photovoltaic modules. Solar photovoltaic arrays are used to establish an electrical connection between multiple solar cells.

Photovoltaic is based on the same principle that is used in photodiode. In photodiode transducer light is used for current generation.  Direct current produced by solar cells can be used to power equipment. It can also be used for recharging purposed like battery recharge etc.

Solar cells though require protection from environmental hazards and are packaged usually behind a glass sheet. Since a single solar cell can only produce a small quantity of energy that's why solar cells are packaged as Photovoltaic Modules or Solar Panels to produce more energy. A single Photovoltaic Module generate power enough to run telephone on emergency basis but for running a power house thee modules are arranged in the form of arrays.

To generate even more solar energy array of arrays are connected together.
Solar energy is used on a very large scale in developed countries like Japan and USA and in future even more investment is expected in this area.
