When Sewing On Buttons For Suspenders, Do You Put The Buttons Inside The Waist Band Or Outside The Waistband?

Buttons for suspenders can be sewed on either the inside or the outside of the waistband. Men's suspenders are available in either style. It might be a good idea to ask the wearer's opinion. Some people might prefer a button on the outside so that it doesn't prick them! However, a button on the inside is the more traditional style.

Nowadays there are suspender buttons available which don't need sewing. Each button has two separate parts - a back and a front. You push the back of the button through the inside of the waistband. Then you simply push on the front of the button on the outside of the waistband. The method lets you put on all four buttons in a few minutes, although many people still prefer sewn-on buttons.

'Suspenders' in the UK means something altogether different than it does in the United States. In the UK, 'suspenders' refers to women's lingerie.
