Jennifer Connelly won the category of 'Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role' in the 74th Academy Awards, held in 2002. This was for playing the role of Alicia Nash in 'A Beautiful Mind'.
Fellow nominees for the award included Helen Mirren in 'Gosford Park', Maggie Smith in 'Gosford Park', Marisa Tomei in 'In the Bedroom' and Kate Winslet in 'Iris'.
Jennifer Connelly who has starred in many other films such as 'Once Upon a Time in America', 'Labyrinth' and 'House of Sand and Fog', used her acceptance speech to thank the Academy, her director Ron Howard and co-star Russell Crowe.
'A Beautiful Mind' is a film which follows the life of John Nash, played by Russell Crowe. Nash is a gifted mathematician who suffered from schizophrenia. His wife, Alicia Nash, played by Connelly, helps him to deal with his illness and he eventually wins the Nobel Prize.
Connelly also starred alongside Paul Bettany in 'A Beautiful Mind' who she married in 2003.
