Shiloh is a Hebrew word. It was an ancient village in central Palestine, which was situated North West of the Dead Sea. Currently it is situated in modern Khirbet Seilun. In the Hebrew bible, it is mentioned as an assembly place for the Israelis. It contained a sanctuary where the ark of the covenant was kept. The ark was a sacred container bearing the Ten Commandments written in stone tablets. This was later taken away by the philistines. It was where children of Israel would congregate. The literal translation of Shiloh in Hebrew is "the gift of god" or "he who is to be sent" or in other words, a Messiah. This term was mentioned in reference to a person in the holy book of Genesis.
