Can Applying For A Credit Card Affect Your Credit Rating?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Many people do not realise that actually applying for credit can affect their credit rating. People generally assume that it is only when you have a credit card that your credit rating can be affected, but the truth is, if you are declined a credit card for whatever reason, that also goes on your record. Whilst this might not always matter, a bad credit rating can affect a person chance of getting future credit and if they don't, they can still have problems getting a mortgage.

Many people are drawn into applying for credit cards online. Whilst it may be quick and easy, that little simple click of a button could well be affecting their credit rating. So, as well as paying back all the repayments on time, you also have to make sure that if you do apply for more credit, you can handle it and get your credit rating back up!

The actual application makes no difference. Being refused does. Running up bills and overstepping the credit limit does. Failing to pay back money - the minimum - on time does.
