Are The Red Berries Of The Female Plants Of Asparagus Poisonous?

Asparagus is a common vegetable that is known to be grown wild along the roadsides and railway tracks. It takes a considerable amount of hard work and a long duration to make a well planned bed for Asparagus. These plants are either male or a female.

The small bright red berries produced by mature Asparagus female plants in the summer of New Zealand are known to be mildly poisonous. Uncooked Asparagus shoots are also found to be poisonous, as are red berries found on the female plants in summer.
