Read,read and read to come across different words.  This really will help you a great deal.  Jot down some words which you are unfamiliar with so that on a daily basis you check their meanings and start using those words in your day to day speaking etc.  Try to use different words to describe situations or things that have happened, so that you are constantly stretching your vocabulary.
