What Exactly Is A Learning Disability?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A learning disability is the term used when a person has problems learning at the ordinary rate of the average person. It is generally a problem with reading, writing, and maths, speaking or listening. However, just because a person has learning difficulties, it does not necessarily mean that they are less intelligent than other people. In fact, some people with learning difficulties are actually more intelligent than most and they simply have problems with one aspect of their life.
People are tested officially to see if they do have learning disabilities through a formal process and they are usually picked up on quite early. Overall a learning disability does not always mean that the person cannot understand most things. Usually it is only one area the person does not understand, and everything else is easy for them. Also, another common myth is that people with learning disabilities are also physically disabled. This is certainly not true – absolutely anybody can have a learning disability.
