There is no specific age that ADHD is diagnosed, but it more or less becomes apparent when a child first goes to school as there is a lot of structure and boundries that need to be adhered to.

With the help of the teachers at school, they can give their opinions on your childs behaviour while you are not present. Also, it is paramount to get a professional opinion on your childs behaviour and growth now that they are at school. They will be able to diagnose the disorder for sure.

A medical professional can also help to rule out any other possibilities for your childs behaviour, whether it be a physical problem such as one with their thyroid for example.

There are medications now that can be used for children aged 6 and over. By the time you have had your child diagnosed (and assuming they do have the disorder) they will probably be eligible soon enough. Good luck and I hope everything works out for you and your child.
