The statement "Better weep with the wise than laugh with the fool" is intended to emphases the importance of keeping the company of the wise and shunning association of the foolish .Two extreme conditions of life namely weeping and laughing have been chosen to illustrate the significance of the expression.

We all love to laugh .It is expression of joy gain and success. Side by side we also hate to weep. The foolish may give us causes to laugh and be happy. But such delight is unreal, transitory and may lend us into inconceivable miseries. On the other hand, being and living may cause us tears and sufferings. But these will not last long. Even if they do, life will have been lived well because under the influence of the wise we will be impelled always to do noble deeds.

If it is causing tear to us, will do immense good to mankind at large. But under the influence of the foolish, we will while and whistle away our time, being engaged in worthless amusements and jollities. These may give us opportunities of laughing but for a short while. We are advised to take care of that person with whom we are laughing or weeping.

Just what it says, it is better to weep with the wise, and KNOW what has been lost (or gained), rather than to laugh with the fool who has NO IDEA of what he has lost(or has no idea of what he has gained) and will most likely lose that too.
A wise man knows that things don't come without cost, and therefore what he does have is to be valued, the fool has a simpler side to him, and doesn't think about the consequence of losing something that might be of the greatest of importance to him. Hope this helps.
