Broadband has helped in many ways to improve food supply chain management. Its main impact has been in improving efficiency, cutting costs and improving communications in what is by its very nature a lengthy process that involves farmers, traders, logistics, wholesalers etc.

Much of the previous inefficiency that negatively affected the food supply chain and food and drink industry – waste and additional costs, for example – have been removed. The use of broadband has helped to solve many of the problems of supply chains, thereby increasing profitability by controlling effectively the supply and demand.

The adoption of broadband has also driven most of the recent innovations in the sector. Previously dreamt of online marketplaces have sprung up making it possible for buyers and sellers to conduct online transactions and streamline business processes to ensure the maximum benefit for all concerned.

Due to its sheer speed and 'always on' availability, broadband has helped buyers and sellers at each stage of the supply chain customers to streamline and manage orders much more effectively, allowing them to transmit, manage and expedite purchase orders in real time.
