    The prefix 'giga' is used as a unit of measurement and the number it describes is that of ten to the power nine or two to the power thirty. You can form numerous words by combining the prefix 'giga' with another word and some of the more popular words are gigabyte and gigahertz. Gigabyte is a word that is mainly used in the computing and the meaning that can be figured out from the word is a unit of computer memory that is equal to two to the power thirty or in simple terms about a billion bytes.
         
    Another term gigahertz that is formed with the prefix 'giga' describes a unit with which you can measure radio waves. The word also describes the speed with which a computer operates.
