Why Does My Dog Who's A Boxer Has His Face Swollen?

I had a box that lived to be 12 1/2 years old. One night when he was young I noticed that he had swollen. I took him to the emergency room and they gave him benadryl, thinking that he had been bitten. Well as he got older, I found that he had severe allergies and was placed on allergy shots, daily benadryl and medrol (steroid). Unfortunately, breeders don't always tell you that their parents had problems.
